The Adidas Campus 80s collection

Originally created for basketball players, although their appearance is more reminiscent of shoes for skateboarders, the Adidas Campus 80s have survived several decades to come back into fashion in 2023.

Originally, rather than being adopted by the basketball players for whom they were originally designed, it was members of the American hip-hop culture of the 1980s and 1990s who made them their must-have. The Beastie Boys even featured them on the cover of their 1992 album Check Your Head . It was this springboard that helped the Campus 80s become a must-have sneaker, with the B-Boys confirming their status as major players in the style of the era.

BAPE x Adidas 80s Campus

One of the key collaborations of 2023 will be between A Bathing Ape, more commonly known as Bape, and the brand with the three stripes. After the Superstar revisited by the Japanese urban fashion house, giving rise to the Adidas Superstar Bape ABC Camo Green and the Superstar 80s Bape White Black, it's the Campus' turn to be rethought.

The Bape x Adidas Campus 80s celebrate both the 30th anniversary of the streetwear brand created by Nigo in 1993, and the 20th anniversary of the partnership between Nigo and Adidas. These Campuses feature a dark navy suede upper with the Bape Star logo on the outside of the shoe, while the other side features the three white leather stripes Adidas. What's more, the heel is stamped Bape in gold script, as is the pair's lace lock.

Released on 1ᵉʳ April 2023 at a price of €150, this collaboration proved that the German brand's creative genius never ages with the years, making the 80s a legendary model from the firm, as timeless as it is cool.

After the resurgence of the Adidas Gazelle and the hype surrounding the Sambas, it looks like it's the turn of the Adidas 80s Campus to be in the spotlight. All the more so as reinterpretations of this pair of sneakers accumulate in 2023. Updated with a 2000s-inspired look, the Campus 00s retains all the features of its predecessor, but in an oversized look that makes it appear as if it were intended for skateboarding.

What future for the Adidas Campus 80?

Although first unveiled in the late 1970s, the 80s sneaker has not yet said its last word. After multiple limited-edition models have appeared in recent years, the Campus 80s "Croptober" appears to be the unofficial successor to the Adidas Campus 80s Towelie imagined by the adult cartoon South Park.

The Croptober sneaker celebrates an event for a rather controversial product worldwide. The expression "Four Twenty", commonly used in North America, designates both the day, April 20, and the time: 16:20. On this day, a very special event is celebrated: International Cannabis Day. In many parts of the world, this day on April 20 is dedicated to protesting - by smoking cannabis - against its prohibition, and, in the USA where it is widely celebrated, to lobbying Congress to legalize marijuana, a derivative of cannabis.

This pair of sneakers was released on Harvest Day, April 20, 2023. It features a detachable beige leather upper resembling wrapping paper, revealing a leaf-green nubuck upper and psychedelic prints on the inner lining.

How big is the Campus 80s?

Adidas campus is a brand known for shoeing small. To ensure that your Adidas Campus 80s sneakers fit perfectly, we therefore advise you to choose half a size above your usual size. This shoe, with its all-purpose yet colorful look, will delight men and women alike.
