These partnerships have certainly increased popularity for the retailer, but at a very high cost, beginning to sow the seeds of KIKIKICKZ's financial crisis. With low margins on each pair sold, averaging between 10% and 20%, the strategy of massive sales to balance a substantial marketing budget proved difficult to sustain. In 2021, Kikikickz recorded a net profit of €39,400. However, in 2022, the startup suffered a net loss of €5 million, accompanied by financial debt of €1.57 million.

According to French government regulations, in a bankruptcy situation, tax debts have priority. Thus, the initial repayment is dedicated to what the company owes the State. Next come business partners, such as suppliers and transport companies, as well as customers. Employees, some of whom probably haven't received a salary for several months, are also taken into account in this phase.
Unfortunately, individual resellers, or 'one-off' suppliers who used to sell their sneakers on the platform, are at the bottom of the refund priority list. Even though large sums of money are at stake, the chances of them recovering their sneaker sales are slim.
This situation has sparked a wave of discontent on social networks, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where many users are expressing their frustration with Kikikicks with messages such as "give me back my money".
It's important to recognize that running a business has its challenges, and Kikikickz isn't the only company in the retail sector currently experiencing financial difficulties. Brands such as Camaïeu, San Marina, Celio and André have also faced similar situations.
The liquidation of Kikikickz has undoubtedly heightened consumer skepticism towards sneaker resale platforms, but we shouldn't generalize: other platforms with more controlled growth have been around for several years, or even decades for the oldest.
However, it's worth pointing out that Kikikickz has experienced remarkable growth in a very short space of time. Perhaps they grew too fast, focusing excessively on acquiring customers to the detriment of paying their suppliers? Despite this, their receivership creates opportunities for other companies in the market, freeing up space in a sector where Kikikickz was a serious competitor.
