Adidasthe brand with the three stripes

Adidas is a world-renowned designer, marketer and distributor of footwear, apparel and sports equipment. The company was founded in 1949 in Germany by brothers Adi and Rudolf Dassler. Adidas was the first sneaker competitor to the Nike brand. Their company was originally called Dassler before becoming Adidas. Following conflicts between the two Dassler brothers after the Second World War, they separated to create Adidas for Adi and Puma for Rudolf. One of the company's main objectives is to meet the needs and expectations of athletes through the performance of sports footwear, and this has been the case since the firm was officially founded by the latter in 1949. The company produces sports equipment ranging from balls and shoes to clothing and accessories. Jesse Owens was one of the first stars to wear the brand's products, winning 4 gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. Adidas became increasingly present at the Olympics, and succeeded in becoming the Games' sponsor brand in 2012. Known worldwide as the brand with the three stripes, the company then turned its attention to other disciplines, such as tennis and basketball, expanding its product range. Its image was renewed by such iconic silhouettes as the Stan Smith and Superstar.

BOOST innovationAdidas

The 60's were very important for the brand, as the Stan Smith sneaker was created in 1964. Named after a legendary sportsman, it was originally christened Robert Haillet. The model is described as a pair of white tennis shoes made from cowhide leather. Sales reached all-time highs, with over 40 million pairs sold worldwide, and still sold in 2022. It was also in the 60s that New Balance launched the Trackster, a very popular running shoe.

It was only in 1970 that Adidas launched its first pair of sneakers on the American market, the Superstar. It should be noted that the Gazelle, an emblematic model of the brand, was launched the same year. Later, the brand was marked by the rise of Adidas running-inspired sneakers, with the logical support of runners and then sneaker addicts. It was during this period that the ZX 500 arrived in 1984, followed by the ZX 5000 and ZX 8000 in 1988. They introduced and promoted the TORSION system, an innovative cushioning technology still appreciated by many runners. The sneakers Adidas, quickly became a major figure in running, and in 2015 launched the Ultraboost model and the NMD. These two running shoes feature a Boost sole, a must-have in terms of comfort and style. This new technology is also used today on Yeezy Boost sneakers.

Kanye West and Pharrell Williams at the heart of Sneakers collaborations Adidas

Adidas works with some of the biggest names in music, art and fashion. All these collaborations allow the brand to reinvent itself, to add new energy and a touch of creativity. The German company began collaborating with famous designers such as Yohji Yamamoto and Stella McCartney in the early 2000s. The brand also approached song stars such as Pharrell Williams and Kanye West, who developed their own collections. The collaboration with Kanye, Yeezy, met with phenomenal success from 2017 onwards, thanks to sneaker releases in very limited quantities of Yeezy Boost 350 V2.

The vision of the footwear brand

Since 2010, sustainable development has become a real priority for Adidas. The firm has teamed up with Parley, an organization committed to ocean conservation, to develop footwear and apparel made from recycled plastic. The aim is to put an end to the waste generated by the fashion industry using plastic and debris that pollute the planet. The basketball brand never ceases to amaze us with its boundless creativity, social commitment and manufacturing quality.
