Since 2015, multiple partnerships between Nike and the Japanese fashion brand Sacai have emerged, resulting in the creation of numerous legendary trainers .
It all began in 1999, thanks to one person: fashion designer Chitose Abe . After eight years at Comme des Garçons, she decided to found her own brand, inspired by her maiden name, Sakai. The luxury house Sacai began as a designer house of practical handmade knitwear in Tokyo, the Japanese capital.
However, the fashion label had to wait nearly ten years before finding recognition among the most influential luxury houses, particularly those in Paris. But it wasn't until 2014, with its fall/winter collection, that Sacai developed its highly asymmetrical style, which has made it so distinctive and internationally renowned today.
After collaborations with Clarks and Vans , in 2015, the one between Sacai and the swoosh brand was born and proved to be a hit from the very first collection released. Named “NikeLab”, the latter consisted of sportswear. It was only four years later that the first Nike Sacai sneaker collection was unveiled to the trainers community: “ Blazer With The Dunk ”.
Very popular, it combines the Nike Blazer and Nike SB Dunk shoe models , hence its name, imbued with Sacai know-how and its imprint. On these trainers , we find the elements of a typical Nike shoe , however all doubled. Double swoosh, layering of materials on the upper, and even double tongue! Nike lets its original design get a makeover à la Chitose Abe, which will bear fruit since this first association will be a real success, both for the American giant and the Japanese brand, which will see its popularity propelled internationally.
Since then, Nike Sacai have diversified and launched the Vaporwaffle as well as the LD Waffle . The Nike Sacai Vaporwaffle have become best-sellers and must-have Nike trainers , which are constantly being reimagined in new colors.
Set to continue for many years, given the successes that have followed and the creations that have emerged in their wake, the love story between Nike and Sacai doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon. And for good reason: since March 2023, the rumor of a new Nike Waffle Sacai has been stirring up sneakerheads, who are impatient for the release of this future model.
This so-called Nike Vaporwaffle Sacai will feature a very original multi-colored patchwork and its usual asymmetrical features. The Sacai house , known for its creativity, likes to paint Nike sneakers in very colorful versions, as we observed on the Nike Sacai LD Waffle Pine Green Del Sol and Green Multi .
