New Balance began in 1906 with the manufacture of orthopedic insoles. It was William R Riley, an orthopedic shoemaker who created this brand. According to the story, it was while observing the feet of chickens in his garden that he had the idea of making an insole with three supports. It is from this story that the name of the brand came.
