Inspired by Michael Jordan 's sensational performances on basketball courts around the world, Hatfield dreamed of creating a shoe that would embody the power, speed and grace of the most iconic basketball player of all time.

While walking through a secret Nike laboratory, Hatfield suddenly remembered a recent trip to Africa. He had been deeply impressed by the clean lines and geometric patterns of the Egyptian pyramids. He realized that these shapes could be the key to designing a shoe that was both stylish and high-performance. In a daydream, he saw clean lines and architectural details merge to create a unique, elegant and functional silhouette.

Hatfield decided to add a visible cushioning unit to the heel, not only for ultimate comfort, but also to give the shoe a futuristic, almost space-age feel. He dreamed that Michael Jordan himself laced up the shoe, leaping onto basketball courts with renewed agility and confidence.
