Air Max 95: an iconic Nike collection
The Nike Air Max 95 is an iconic shoe from the Nike brand, first introduced to the market in 1995. It was designed by the famous Sergio Lozano and quickly became an icon of the sneaker world. Here's the story.
It all began in... 1994!
Despite its Air Max 95 name, designer Sergio Lozano began imagining this future jewel of the sneaker world in 1994. A new designer for the brand with the swoosh collaborating on the creation of shoes dedicated to tennis, he was commissioned that year to design a model dedicated to running, a sport on the rise while basketball was losing its appeal. His mission was to create a running shoe that would combine style and performance to win back the interest of running enthusiasts in the Beaverton firm.
Lozano began to think, and drew his inspiration from the soil erosion caused by rain. His first sketch features striations similar to those found at the Grand Canyon. Salehe Bembury drew the same inspiration for the New Balance 2002R Peace Be The Journey. However, this first design of the AM 95 did not please Nike.
The designer dug a little deeper and finally found his answer in anatomy books, attracted by the correlation between the construction of the human body and product design. The Nike Air Max 95 homme takes its shape from the ribs, vertebrae, muscles and skin of the human body. The Nike team is not convinced by this design. However, Lozano, motivated by his admiration for Tinker Hatfield, the famous designer of the Jordan 4, from the Air Jordan line, went ahead with his project.
The first pair of Air Max 95 women's sneakers saw the light of day in 1995, in shades of gray, black and neon, and featuring a layering of materials on the upper that still makes this pair of Nike sneakers distinctive today. Sergio Lozano took a double risk, since gray was not a very popular color for shoes at the time. However, it proved to be a winning gamble for the firm Nike, as this model was an immediate success on its release, and remains one of the sneaker leader's most popular models among sneakerheads almost 30 years later.
The Air Max 95: a unique sneaker
When you delve deeper into the design of this Nike shoe, you realize just how ingenious the Air Max 95 is. Its lacing system is reminiscent of ribs, its outsole is inspired by the shape of the spine, and its suede and mesh upper represents muscle fibers. This bold inspiration called for an upper composed of several superimposed layers of synthetic suede. However, the shoe's colors proved just as emblematic as its creative inspiration.
Released in a multitude of colors since its creation, this pair of Nike sneakers reveals itself as much as a women's sneaker as a men's sneaker. From pink to black to neon green, the combinations of the Air Max 95 sneaker are infinite. Today, this shoe is one of our best-sellers, just like the TNs, thanks in particular to the Air Max 95 Anatomy of Air and the Air Max 95 Corteiz collection. For men, we recommend the Air Max 95 Next Nature Black or the Corteiz Air Max 95, in its Sequoia colorway. For more feminine tones, consider the Air Max 95 Anatomy of Air or the Air Max 95 Corteiz Pink.
