Nike Cortez, the running legends
The best-known sports and streetwear brand is, without doubt, Nike. Over the years, the American company has expanded and diversified to become the world's largest sneaker retailer. From sneakers to sportswear, Nike is present in virtually every field. Validated by the world's leading stylists and influencers, the swoosh brand has become the world's number 1. Initially based in Beaverton, Oregon, the brand only distributed sports shoes. They soon began designing their own, and in 1971 built the company Nike. They named the company after the Greek goddess of victory, Niké.
The history of the Nike Cortez sneaker
It all began when the two founders of Nike, Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, tried to make a pair of comfortable, sturdy running shoes for track runners. While the company was still called Blue Ribbon Sports, the two athletes were looking to compete with Japanese company Onitsuka Tiger (the forerunner ofAsics) and decided to release the revolutionary Nike Cortez.
The Cortez is a running shoe created in 1972. It was one of the first shoes released by the American brand. Regarding the history of the model, the Cortez Nike was released at the Munich Summer Olympics. They were given to runners to try out. They were an immediate success and were adopted by athletes.
The reason the Nike Cortez was so popular at the time was its modernity. Indeed, it was made using innovative manufacturing processes, ahead of its time, which set it apart from other running shoe manufacturers. Its sole was wave-shaped, making it shockproof and offering better grip. Initially made of leather, the Cortez was quite robust for its time.
The Cortez, a classic pair of sneakers
Nike after the Air Force 1 and Air Max, the Cortez is now back with its classic pair, in Nylon or leather as in the old days. Following its exploits on the racetrack, many celebrities and influencers of the time began wearing it, including on the street. Indeed, thanks to numerous appearances in the world of cinema, the Cortez pair met with a second great success, particularly with the general public. They have been seen in films such as Forrest Gump, Karate Kid and The Wolf of Wall Street. This only increased its notoriety, and Nike decided to democratize it by bringing out many different models and colors for men and women. All this contributed to making it a brand icon that is not about to disappear.
Nike the Cortez brand is a professional when it comes to releasing shoes for sports, for the street, and in particular to compete with its long-standing rival, Adidas.
The Nike Cortez, a timeless pair
With Nike 's policy of diversifying its models, the brand with the swoosh has revisited its famous Cortez, releasing a multitude of different colors and making collaborations. This is the case of the Nike Cortez Union Sesame, for example, which features the famous Cortez line with a touch of Union branding. A tag with the letters UN/LA can be seen next to the laces. This capsule contains four pairs of Cortez, each more colorful and original than the last, like the Nike Cortez Union Lemon Frost.
