Nike Shox

The history of the atypical Nike Shox collection

After a long period of research and development overseen by Bruce Kilgore, the Nike Shox collection was launched in 2000. The first model in the range was the Nike Shox R4, initially designed for running. This first silhouette paved the way for a series of designs that pushed the boundaries of the sneaker industry. But to get back to Nike Shox R4, it's worth noting that it made a name for itself as soon as it hit the market, thanks to its avant-garde design and a color palette that had never been seen before. This model, considered the starting point of the Nike Shox collection, was made from top-of-the-range materials and featured a dazzling silver finish, accented by Comet Red Shox studs, all giving the impression of extraterrestrial provenance. The R4 family was then expanded with the addition of the Shox R4+ in 2001. This unique, traditional iteration featured a molded upper in lightweight mesh and a zippered closure. While retaining the Shox cushioning in the heel, this evolution offered runners a new look. Shox technology is a concept based on the combined use of spring-like foam compartments, which retract both inwards and outwards with each stride. In addition to providing optimum shock absorption, these springs redirect energy once they return to their original shape. In his early days, Bruce Kilgore incorporated just four of these compartments under the heel (notably on the Nike Shox R4). However, Nike 's inordinate ambition pushed his teams to go even further. A few years later, in 2003, the American brand officially launched the Shox TL, a sports shoe that incorporates "springs" in both the forefoot and rearfoot. With this version, Shox technology was extended to the whole foot (Shox TL: TL stands for "Total"). Still appreciated today for its fluid stride and atypical aesthetic, this strikingly designed silhouette has won over fans of original sneakers. The legacy of the first Nike Shox sneakers has continued to influence the sneaker industry, giving rise to many other models that we'll talk about below.

The sneaker community's favorite Nike Shox sneakers

The Shox models signed Nike are numerous, but only a few silhouettes have enjoyed particular success. And these are the ones we're going to take a look at. Let's start with one of the pairs of sneakers from the many Nike X Supreme collabs, the Nike Shox Ride 2 Supreme White: behind this name lies a silhouette distinguished by its sleek design and dominant white color. The iconic elements of Shox technology are discreetly integrated into the midsole of this whiteNike Shox. Its springs are surrounded by a red Supreme logo. In contrast, the Nike Shox Ride 2 Supreme Black adopts a darker aesthetic with its dominant black hue. This version offers a refined combination of modern styling and innovation with Shox technology, ensuring a comfortable and dynamic wearing experience. Once again, the springs of this model are surrounded by a Supreme logo, this time in white. In short, this blackNike Shox is ideal for anyone who wants to sport a rebellious look. Finally, let's take a look at THE bestseller in the Shox Nike collection: the Nike Shox TL Black Max Orange. This shoe combines a bold mix of black with rare touches of orange (or even red), creating an eye-catching visual effect. Overall, the aesthetic of this pair is very similar to that of the Air Max TN Triple Black. On this Nike Shox TL, Shox technology has once again been strategically integrated to deliver optimum cushioning. To sum up, the aggressive design of the blackNike Shox TL combines futuristic aesthetics and performance to perfection.
