History of Nike KD

The Nike KD were born from the collaboration between the famous basketball player Kévin Durant and Nike .

Kevin Durant is considered one of the best basketball players in NBA history. Nicknamed KD , it becomes a true symbol of agility and flexibility. Indeed, Durant can literally score from anywhere on the court.

For the record, Durant began his NBA career in 2007 after being selected as the second overall pick by the Seattle SuperSonics, who shortly after became the Oklahoma City Thunder. During his career, he played for several teams, including the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Golden State Warriors, with whom he won two NBA championships in 2017 and 2018, and the Brooklyn Nets. KD is recognized for being named the regular season MVP (Most Valuable Player) in 2014, and he has been selected to the NBA All-Star Game several times. In addition to his success in the NBA, he also won two Olympic gold medals with the United States national team in 2012 and 2016.

This list of achievements has not fallen on the ears of just anyone, and it was in 2008 that the very first pair of KD signature trainers was born: The Nike Zoom KD I. Few players have been able to benefit from a signature pair!

The design of the Nike KD

Over a period of ten years, from 2008 to 2018, the collaboration between Nike and Kevin Durant gave us ten unique KD Nike models, which amounts to one new release per year, a fairly remarkable launch rate.

It is easy to see that this collaboration was divided into two distinct eras. Thus, we differentiate the Nike KD models from the first era, ranging from 2007 to 2012, from the following models. The Nike KD are easily identifiable by their unique design, typical of NBA players' shoes, with a rather slender silhouette, dominated by a white background embellished with touches of bright colors such as blue or yellow, allowing their immediate recognition on the court. However, despite these bursts of color, they maintain a simplicity that makes them comparable to many other basketball sneakers.

The collaboration then underwent a major transformation after 2012. Kevin Durant decided to no longer name his shoes Nike KD Zoom but simply Nike KD. This change also marks a revolution in design, abandoning simple white to plunge into visual extravagance at first glance. Unexpected color combinations appear, like on the Nike KD 7 from 2014 which mixes pale pink, neon yellow and gray. It may seem trivial, but the result is astonishing!

It is true that after 2012 we also find more sober models, but even these display increased sophistication in terms of design and materials. Take for example the Nike KD 9 from 2016, which helped lead to Durant's first NBA title with the Golden State Warriors .

Whether you prefer the more understated, old school models or the current era, with their bold color palettes and varied materials, remember that the Nike KD is named after a basketball legend, which makes them essential collector's items.

How do Kevin Durant's Nike fit?

Despite an imposing appearance that might seem difficult to put on, the Nike Kévin Durant shoes turn out to be surprisingly comfortable, like little slippers. It is essential to remember that they were designed specifically for basketball players, offering both lightness and unparalleled support. When it comes to Nike KDs, no need to worry about choosing the size: choose your usual size with complete confidence!
